Colloquia (MMEE)
According to the PhD Student Standard, the obligations are as follows:
- At the end of the first year a successful presentation of the dissertation research at the department colloquium,
- At the end of the second year a successful presentation of the dissertation research at the faculty (FBA) colloquium.

For the department colloquium (for Template, see below) the student should have a completed research for bibliography (approx. 80 most relevant sources and books, predominantly journals published in the last five years). Research means a completed literature review, which gives rise to research questions. The research questions are formulated on the basis of an overview of the existing state of knowledge in the field of dissertation, defining the added value that the dissertation should bring, both for scientific knowledge in the world context and for practice and a concept of your empirical research – research data groups design, data acquisition methods, data evaluation methods. The colloquium will provide recommendations for further processing of the dissertation.
For the faculty colloquium (for Template, see below) you present a complete theoretical part of your thesis, finalised method design (with piloted data sample) and schedule of data collection and completion of your dissertation. The colloquium will provide recommendations for further processing of the dissertation.
Participants (Department colloquium)
- Participants are informed and addressed by the head of the department or by a designated representative.
- Participants: Doctoral students who present their work at the colloquium and their supervisors, doctoral students from the department, their supervisors (in case of illness, a representative is to be appointed by the supervisor), a representative of the department with an advanced knowledge of research methodology.
- Min. 4 persons.
- The Report from the Colloquium is to be filled in by the Supervisor (or, upon agreement, by the department representative) and he / she will hand it over to the Study Officer (Ing. Helclová) as soon as possible. Report from the department colloquium – see at the bottom of the page.

Participants (Faculty colloquium)
- Participants: Doctoral students who present their work at the colloquium and their supervisors (or a representative), doctoral students, at least a three-member committee consisting of opponents (nominated by the Vice-Dean) and the Vice-Dean for Research and Ph.D. Studies (or a designated person), and possibly other members of the academic community of the Faculty.
- The faculty colloquium is usually held in English (a change of language is possible upon an agreement with the vice-dean).
- The successful completion of the faculty colloquium is upon the evaluation and decision of a committee (min. of committee members: 2), consisting of named opponents, with the chairman of the committee having the deciding vote. Other members of the FBA academic community, including the supervisor, may be present during decision-making, but they do not have the right to vote.
- The Report is prepared by the chairman of the committee, in cooperation with the other committee member(s) and the supervisor. Report from the faculty colloquium – see at the bottom of the page.
- The date of the faculty colloquium announced by the Vice-Dean for Research and Ph.D. Studies is binding.
- The opponents shall send their assessments in an electronic form to the supervisor and the doctoral student as well as to the committee member(s).
- We ask the opponents to kindly hand over the reviews in a sufficient advance so that the doctoral student can prepare a response.
Organizational arrangements (Department and Faculty colloquium)
Student:
- The student sends the thesis and possibly a presentation (for 15–20 minutes) as well as other materials determined by the department at least 4 weeks before the department colloquium to the department (to the contact person), the submission deadline may be individually adjusted by the department.
- The student sends the thesis min. 4 weeks (unless otherwise specified) before the faculty colloquium to the respective department, to his/her supervisor and to the designated opponents and committee member(s).
Department colloquium
Department (designated representative) ensures the following:
- Determination of department colloquium dates at individual departments (day/room) min. 1 month in advance (the study officer is informed and publishes the dates on the faculty’s website).
- Detailed organization of department colloquiums (including addressing and inviting participants).
- Handing over presentations and other documents to the members of the department and to the invited faculty representatives who will participate in the colloquium.
- In cooperation with the supervisor, preparation of the Report from the colloquium (incl. an addition of possible measures for incorporation). Report from the department colloquium – see at the bottom of the page.
- Handing over the Report to the Study Officer (Ing. Helclová).
- Participation (excuses) of doctoral students and supervisors.
Faculty colloquium
- The date of the faculty colloquium is announced by the Vice-Dean for Research and Ph.D. Studies with sufficient advance notice.
- The Study Officer takes care of the organization (room booking, informing students, other tasks).
- The Vice-Dean nominates min. 2 opponents (the first one is the Chair of the Committee).
- The Chair of the Committee ensures the preparation of the Report and hands it over to the Study Officer. Report from the faculty colloquium – see at the bottom of the page.
- The Chair of the Committee directs the faculty colloquium. The public part should last 50 min. 1) presentation (15-20 min) 2) presentation of reviews (10 min) 3) reaction to reviews and discussions (20-25 min) 4) Private discussion of the commission and an announcement of the result (max. 10 min)
