Dear students/Dear colleagues,

Let us inform you about the results of the meeting of the University´s crisis staff on May 4, 2020. The University of Economics, Prague is currently following Act No. 188/2020 Coll. of April 17, 2020. This Act regulates special rules concerning studies at universities and activities of higher education authorities in 2020. On basis of this Act, VŠE may take extraordinary measures that will enable us to complete the summer semester according to the original schedule.

Classes in the summer semester end on May 15, 2020, the examination period starts on May 18 and ends on June 26, 2020.

On April 30, 2020, the Government of the Czech Republic adopted a resolution on a slight release of conditions for universities. It concerns the personal presence of students during their studies, when the number of people present in one room increases from five to fifteen.

With effect from May 11, 2020, the following regime will apply at the University of Economics, Prague:

  • state final examinations at bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level, including defenses of final theses, and comprehensive examinations in minor specializations may be held, while only the necessary number of persons can be present (15 in total)
  • if none of the valid restrictions prevents students from personal participation, the state final examinations take place in person
  • during the examination period, examinations can take place in the distance form (on-line), in the semi-distance form (in front of the examination commission, where some examiners are present in the room and some are online) or in person, but in compliance with currently valid conditions set by the Czech government
  • deans of the faculties are responsible for the proper implementation of the examination period. Faculties set exam dates, decide on examination methods and inform students (supervisors of individual courses are obliged to properly inform students enrolled in the course about the announced exam dates and the examination methods)
  • other activities can also take place at VŠE, for example individual or group consultations (max. 15 people)
A student may participate in an examination or other activity at VŠE only if the following conditions are met:
  • prove its identity with a student´s ID card to the security staff while entering the building
  • be free from acute health problems corresponding to a viral infectious disease (e.g. fever, cough, shortness of breath, sudden loss of taste and smell, etc.)
  • have no quarantine measures ordered at the given time
  • provide a written affidavit on the absence of symptoms of a viral infectious disease during the previous two weeks
  • wear a respiratory protective device (mask, respirator, scarf, etc.)
  • use hand sanitizer before entering the room
Entrance will be allowed to the students who:
  • take a state final examination or its part, a comprehensive examination in minor specialization, a state doctoral examination, defense a dissertation or take a partial exam from the course enrolled in the summer semester
  • come for a pre-arranged consultation with an VŠE employee
  • come to pick up ordered study literature in the library
The affidavit will be collected by the security staff at the entrance to the school; without the affidavit, no student will be allowed to enter the VŠE premises.
The affidavit form can be downloaded here: VŠE_affidavit form_11. 5. 2020

    • due to the risk of coronavirus infection, it will not be possible to hold graduations in large auditoriums in the dates originally scheduled in June
    • students who duly complete their studies will be able to pick up their diploma in person within the dates set by the relevant faculty, in case of increased risk, the diploma can be sent via post-mail to their own hands. If a student so wishes, he/she can also take over the diploma at the postponed graduation in the autumn
    • graduations of doctoral study programs will take place on October 30, 2020
    • graduations of master’s degree programs will take place in the week from 7 to 11 September 2020
    • deans of the faculties will decide on dates of the postponed bachelor’s graduations

The conditions for verifying fulfillment of the requirements for admission to bachelor’s and master’s degree programs will be published on May 20, 2020, after approval by the faculty academic senates.

The existing extraordinary measures are valid until the moment of further release of restrictive conditions for universities by the government of the Czech Republic. The management of VŠE will adapt the extraordinary measures regulating the presence of students to further development of the situation.
