Management Summary: Research Study „Overcoming Political Resistance to Evaluating the Environmental Impacts of EU Cohesion Policy”

The aim of the study is to verify what barriers for implementation of evidence-based
environmental policies exist and how can be these barriers avoided. Results from three
evaluation studies show that evaluations of the impact of public policies on the quality of the
environment are possible in the Czech Republic, but it is necessary to take into consideration
data, methodological, and political constraints. In particular, data and implementation
constraints are determined by political factors. For this reason, there is a need for
coordination between the administrators of the various data sets in the public sector and
international cooperation.

Target groups of stakeholders: Scientific community, politicians implementing environment
protection policies
