Management Summary Research Study „Fostering Sustainability in SMEs in the Czech Republic (country report for Generalli EnterPrize White Paper 2nd Edition)“

The research report following the collaboration for the SDA Bocconi Sustainability Lab on the first SME EnterPRIZE White Paper contains an updated overview of scientific and non-scientific literature published since the previous edition of the White Paper on Sustainability and SMEs in the Czech Republic. Most importantly, it presents the results of a specifically designed survey of a sample of small and medium-sized enterprises. The aim of the survey is to draw attention not only to the strategic approach of small and medium-sized enterprises to sustainability in the current context, but also to understand the level of integration of sustainability within companies’ operations, including the main drivers for adopting a sustainability approach, the barriers to which and small businesses belong, as well as the activities undertaken and the actual perceived or anticipated benefits.

The second edition of the Generalli EnterPrize White Paper, which includes the FPH VŠE research report for the Czech Republic, aims to make European SMEs even more central to our analysis by engaging them directly through a sample survey that examines the evolution of SMEs’ strategic approach to sustainability over time. This is paramount considering the economic and global scenario characterised by significant complex factors, including recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, the need to accelerate ecological and digital transitions.
