Faculty of Business Administration and CERGE-EI to Launch a New Joint Study Programme
The Faculty of Business Administration at Prague University of Economics and Business has received approval to launch a new bachelor’s programme in English titled Economics of Markets and Organizations. This joint educational initiative with Center for Economic Research and Graduate Education – Economics Institute (CERGE-EI) will combine the strengths of both institutions and prepare students for careers as business professionals, managers, and economists. The admission process opens this December.
The programme is designed to be interdisciplinary, merging the economic and managerial expertise of both institutions and addressing current challenges such as increasing market concentration and a rapidly evolving economic landscape. Students will learn to analyse market dynamics, assess competition, and design effective strategies for both the public and private sectors.
According to Jiří Hnilica, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration at Prague University of Economics and Business, the plan is to welcome the first cohort of 20–30 students at the start of the 2026/27 academic year, i.e., in September next year. The application and admission process will open this December.
This will be the second new study programme for international students launched by the Faculty of Business Administration in the past two years. Last autumn, the faculty welcomed the first students of the Master in Sustainability Management. However, collaboration with another Czech educational institution is a first for the faculty. CERGE-EI will be responsible for approximately 30% of the programme’s content.
“Students will benefit from being taught by professors engaged in world-leading research. Moreover, our community is international, with graduates working in more than 40 countries,” notes CERGE-EI Director Marek Kapička.
This is CERGE-EI’s first bachelor’s programme. “Our flagship programme for nearly 35 years has been the PhD in Economics. In recent years, we have added a Master in Economic Research with a focus on public policy analysis. Now, we look forward to discussing modern economic concepts with undergraduate students,” adds Kapička.
Professionals from both institutions will share their knowledge, experience, and skills with students. Teaching will take place at both campuses. “The programme combines the unique expertise of CERGE-EI and the Faculty of Business Administration. CERGE-EI will focus on analytical and theoretical subjects, while we will cover business and management topics,” explains Dean Hnilica.
The curriculum includes courses taught by respected economists such as Filip Matějka, Marek Kapička, and Daniel Münich. Strategic analysis will be taught by Ladislav Tyll, Academic Director of the highly ranked Master in International Management/CEMS at the Prague University of Economics and Business, which is considered a suitable follow-up master’s programme.
