Journals to avoid

If you receive a “call for papers” in your email box, pay attention to predatory publishers / vanity press. Recently, practices of dubious publishers include:

  • stating a fake impact factor,
  • creating fake webpages of an existing journal with impact factor (hijacking). Often, the real journals are published in a local language and are not “multidisciplinary” (examples: La Pensée, Jokull).

The first step you should do is to check the language, frequency of publishing, ISSN and the real category in Journal Citation Reports.

If you have doubts, you may contact Ondřej Machek who will verify if the journal can be trusted.
