We are operational (sort of)!
We have completed the first equipment takeover for the Extended Reality Research Lab (ERRL). The new baseline includes 12 Meta Quest 3S headsets for standalone VR and mixed reality experiences, 12 high-performance HP OMEN 16 MAX laptops for development and data work, a 65-inch display for demonstrations and observation, and a projector for presentations and group sessions. This setup allows students and researchers to run immersive experiments, prototype VR/XR applications, and test interactive scenarios in a controlled environment. The lab team currently includes Marko Orel (lab lead), Kristýna (operations and coordination), Leire Cartagena (trainee computer engineer), and Josef Jindra (technical support).
We are now starting to operate ERRL in a pilot version. This means the lab is open in a limited, supervised mode while we build a stable workflow for research and teaching. During the pilot, we will configure and standardize the workstations, enroll devices into managed administration, test software tools, and develop clear procedures for safe use, data handling, and repeatable experiment setup. The goal is to ensure that future users can come in, run a study, and export results reliably without complex setup or troubleshooting. We plan to become fully operational by Q4 2026, with broader access for students and researchers across VSE.
