Hnilica_tnOn July 1, 2014, Assoc. Prof. Jiří Hnilica, Ph.D. was appointed as a new head of the Department of Business Economics at the Faculty of Business Administration.

Jiří Hnilica is the University of Economics, Prague graduate. He has been in the department since 2003. At the same time, he is the University´s Vice-Rector for International Relations and Information Systems.

During his doctoral studies and the career in the department, he completed several research and teaching fellowships abroad (University of Denver, Harvard Business School, Technische Universität Dresden, University of Aarhus, Copenhagen Business School or Central European University). He was a Vice-Dean for Academic Affair and International Management/CEMS programme Academic Director till May 2014.

His vision of the department´s main professional objective is based on the profound development in the study branches of business administration, management and business in past decades. The department has to face the development. If the department wants to guarantee the integrative perspective on business operations, the department must specialize in strategy. Thereafter, it will be able to continue in it’s up to now successful activities. At the same time, its mission will be understandable and comparable abroad.

He draws the strategy as a process related to the organisation mission, its strengths and opportunities for all stakeholders stressing the role of the owners. Mr. Hnilica points out the need for quantification and analytical economics and corporate finance methods. These tools are necessary to evaluate the company´s market position and success-rate measuring of the selected business strategy. Since there are corporate finance, financial analysis and controlling field experts in the department, its new head believes the redirecting will be successful.

Mr. Hnilica main goal is to have international department as a successful employer with the expertise staff for different fields. Their principal research and teaching objective would be business and company-units strategy. He believes the cooperativeness and opinion diversity are the main values to achieve the goal.
